With a track composed mostly of staccato hi-hats, snares, synths, and claps and female vocals that are almost out of place yet essential for all their breathy sweetness, Purity Ring's "Ungirthed" is like a Sleigh Bells song with slightly softer edges. It's an impressive first track from this just-formed group.Little is known about Purity Ring but the word is that it's a side project by a member of Gobble Gobble. I'm not sure what "ungirthed" means in this context, but I know that one meaning of the verb "girth" involves the binding of saddles and harnesses to draft animals. That would make "Ungirthed" a pretty good title for the first song of a side project. I'm also not sure why this project was called "Purity Ring" but I doubt that the band intends to promote abstinence. If you want to know for sure, contact Purity Ring yourself at its official/awesome email address: purityringsex@gmail.com.
